Karuzip is a free archive compression and extraction utility for Windows, published by Karuzip and currently available in version 2.2.1, with four versions released to date. Positioned in the file compression category, it is designed primarily for Japanese-language environments and contains no advertisements, bundled software, account registration requirements, or usage data collection. The software supports extraction of 320 file extensions, of which 230 have been operationally verified and 12 verified on physical hardware. A key use case is handling mojibake (garbled filename) ZIP archives: users can preview filenames by switching between UTF-8, CP932, GBK, and Big5 encodings before extraction. Integration with the right-click context menu provides "Extract Here," "Extract to Folder," and "View Contents" options, along with three compression items that appear only when non-archive files are selected. Instant compression to "name.zip" or "name.7z" is available, with automatic sequential numbering when a same-named file exists. Archive creation is supported for ZIP, 7z, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, and WIM formats, while RAR is supported for extraction only. Password-protected ZIP and 7z archives can be both created and extracted, with entered passwords never saved. Split archives such as .zip.001, .7z.001, and .part1.rar are also handled. For archives containing tens of thousands of entries, the software offers listing, searching, selective extraction, and "N / M items" progress display. When an operation is canceled or fails, only newly created partial output is cleaned up. The display language can be switched between Japanese and English in the settings, with the context menu and file type names following the application's language preference. All processing is completed locally on the device, and the software bundles unmodified copies of 7-Zip 25.01 and unar 1.8.1 as its extraction and compression engines.
